Steve Jacobs

High School Social Studies

For Steve Jacobs, teaching is not just a profession. It is a calling shaped over decades of experience, growth, and a deep desire to point students toward faith and purpose.

Now teaching 10th and 12th grade social studies, Steve has spent more than 30 years at Vacaville Christian School, with a teaching career that spans 45 years. His journey into teaching did not begin where he ultimately landed.

“I started teaching thinking I would be a PE teacher. I was hired to teach English and PE at a small Christian school and soon discovered I did not enjoy teaching PE the way I thought I would.”

While he loved coaching and working with athletes who chose to be there, the classroom experience led him in a different direction. When the opportunity came to teach history, it quickly became clear that it was the right fit.

“With a history minor, it felt natural. I greatly enjoy history and seeing how God works, comforts, and leads people throughout the ages.”

In his classroom, history goes beyond dates and events, pointing students to the people and moments where God’s hand is clearly at work.

“I love telling the stories of individual people and their roles in history to encourage my students to think about how they can be an influence and a helper in God’s kingdom.”

He is known for taking time to encourage students individually, helping them see both their potential and their purpose.

“I feel that God wants me here at VCS to daily encourage my students from the Bible and by teaching the examples of Christians through history. I want them to see that they too can be a follower of Jesus.”

Steve’s perspective as an educator has been shaped by experiences in both public and Christian schools. While he has deep respect for the work being done by Christian educators in public education, he feels clearly called to his role at Vacaville Christian School.

Over the years, Steve has had opportunities to serve in other educational settings, yet he has consistently chosen to remain at VCS. He feels a clear calling to the ministry of Christian education, where he can daily encourage students in their faith and point them to Christ through both Scripture and the stories of history.

“I feel that God wants me here at VCS to daily encourage my students from the Bible and by teaching the examples of Christians through history. I want them to see that they too can be a follower of Jesus.”

His approach is marked by humility and honesty, something his students see and learn from each day.

“I have learned so much over the years, and God continues to grow me as both a teacher and a follower of Christ, and I hope my students see that growth in their own lives as well.”

After decades in education, Steve’s perspective continues to grow.

“After 45 years, you would think I would have it figured out, but I have come to realize that this is a lifelong process that prepares us for eternity. I hope my students can understand that as well.”

His guiding truth is simple and steady. God is faithful.

Steve’s impact at VCS extends beyond the classroom. In the 1990s, he helped develop the school’s athletic program alongside Coach Mikelionis, contributing to a foundation that continues to benefit student athletes today.

He attended Biola University, earning a degree in Physical Education with minors in Bible and Social Studies. He holds a California Clear Credential in both Physical Education and Social Studies and pursued graduate studies at Cal State East Bay.

Outside of school, Steve enjoys reading, traveling, and working in his yard. He also shares a memorable part of his story that reflects his bold and committed nature. He asked his wife to marry him on their first date, and they have now been married for 34 years.

In every class he teaches, Steve is not just sharing history. He is helping students see how God has worked through people across time and how He is still working today.

Through his teaching, his faith, and his steady example, Steve encourages students to live with purpose, grow in their walk with Christ, and recognize that God is faithfully at work in their own story.
