Rodney Owens

Middle School Teacher - Pre-Algebra, Algebra
Cinematic Arts

Rodney Owens brings a unique blend of analytical thinking, creativity, and ministry experience to his work at Vacaville Christian School. Since joining the faculty in December 2023, he has invested in middle school students through both mathematics and cinematic arts.

From an early age, Mr. Owens recognized a passion for teaching, training, and helping others. That calling became even more defined through years of ministry, where he developed a love for guiding individuals toward understanding, growth, and purpose. His transition into education reflects that same desire to support and encourage students during a formative season of life.

What he values most about teaching at Vacaville Christian School is the opportunity to integrate Christian principles with subjects he genuinely enjoys. Whether working through mathematical concepts or creative projects, Mr. Owens seeks to create an environment where students are challenged, supported, and inspired.

“I see each student as someone God has placed in my life for a purpose.”

His teaching style centers on critical thinking. Rather than simply providing answers, he encourages students to engage deeply with ideas, understand the reasoning behind processes, and develop confidence in their problem solving abilities. While this approach can feel challenging at first, he believes meaningful learning occurs when students wrestle with concepts and arrive at understanding on their own.

Faith plays a central role in his perspective as an educator. Drawing from nearly two decades of ministry experience, Mr. Owens views his students as individuals God has intentionally placed in his life. He strives to walk alongside them with patience, grace, and consistency, recognizing that middle school is a significant time of personal and spiritual development.

A guiding verse that shapes his work is Ephesians 2:10: “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” This reminder reflects his belief that each student has purpose, value, and potential.

Mr. Owens’ professional journey includes a diverse background. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication with an emphasis in Digital Media from Sacramento State University and a Master of Divinity from A.W. Tozer Seminary. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership and Organizational Development. In addition to his work in education and ministry, he is also a licensed California real estate broker with decades of experience in the industry.

Outside the classroom, Mr. Owens enjoys spending time at the gym and playing Madden. Students quickly recognize his well known classroom trademarks, including his “Stay Positive” slogan and shirt, along with the familiar “Class Dismissed” followed by a single clap before departing.

Through both structure and encouragement, Mr. Owens continues to foster a classroom environment where students are challenged to think critically, grow confidently, and remain grounded in faith.
