For Dr. Valerie Marchione, teaching has always been more than a career. It is a lifelong calling rooted in a love of learning, a commitment to students, and a deep faith in God’s purpose.
With over 32 years at Vacaville Christian School and a career spanning multiple grade levels and subject areas, Dr. Marchione brings a depth of experience shaped by dedication, curiosity, and a willingness to grow. From elementary physical education to middle school history and high school English and French, her journey reflects a passion for exploring new areas and guiding students along the way.
“I have always wanted to be a teacher.”
That calling began early, as she taught Sunday School classes while still in middle school. Since then, her passion for teaching has continued to expand.
“Teaching means learning, and I love the process of exploring new subject areas, doing the research, and sharing with the students.”
Her classroom is shaped by curiosity and exploration, where students are invited to engage deeply and think beyond the surface. She creates an environment where learning connects not only to academics, but to real life.
“VCS has a family culture, and the parents are so supportive of both their students and the teachers.”
That partnership with families allows her to stretch students further, integrating real life experiences and perspectives into meaningful classroom learning.
“Teaching means learning, and I love the process of exploring new subject areas, doing the research, and sharing with the students.”
Faith is central to everything she does as an educator.
“Faith is integral to life choices, and I have to evaluate my own faith and understanding to effectively bring it to the classroom.”
She encourages students to see that faith and learning are not separate, but deeply connected.
“I want them to blend faith and learning, to see the interconnection and apply it to their lives.”
Her guiding verse, Colossians 3:23, reminds her to approach each day with purpose.
“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord.”
On both the easy and challenging days, this truth helps her remain focused on the greater impact of her work and the lives she is helping shape.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Marchione continues to model a love of growth and discovery. She has traveled to and taught in five continents, bringing a global perspective into her teaching. She is also passionate about swimming, spending time in the water each week to reflect, process, and reset.
Her academic journey reflects the same curiosity she encourages in her students. With degrees ranging from Physical Education to French and Child Development, she is currently pursuing post doctoral work in Holocaust studies. She also maintains a personal library of Holocaust biographies, helping students understand history through individual stories and perspectives.
Her connection to Vacaville Christian School is both professional and deeply personal.
“I have been here 32 years. My children attended from preschool through high school, and now my grandchildren are continuing that journey.”
That legacy speaks to the strength of the VCS community, one that has supported her family across generations and continues to shape lives through faith, learning, and meaningful relationships.
Through her teaching, her example, and her lifelong commitment to growth, Dr. Marchione inspires students to love learning, think deeply, and live out their faith with purpose.
