A Note from Mrs. Terra Golden

My Dear Vacaville Christian High School Alumni

Time has a way of moving us forward, but there are some moments—some places and people—that leave a lasting imprint on our hearts. For those of you who once sat in my sophomore English classroom, debated literature, lived through Shakespeare scenes, and maybe even attempted to leave without permission (for one of the four valid reasons, of course), you know that what we built in those years was more than just an academic experience. We created core memories together—ones that still make me smile and sometimes shake my head. I miss those days dearly.

Scripture reminds us of the deep bond we share as those who walk in Christ’s love: “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” – Romans 12:4-5. There is a unique connection between those who have walked the same hallways, shared in the same laughter, and supported each other through both the struggles and victories of high school life. Whether it was the intensity of being “my senior class” through my advising days, the undeniable competitiveness that made any event feel like the Olympics, or the passion you put into acting out the courtroom scene from To Kill a Mockingbird, we built something real. The goal wasn’t just to understand what we were reading, but to feel it—to make the words on the page come alive so that they left an impact on your hearts. I sure hope it did.

“There is a unique connection between those who have walked the same hallways, shared in the same laughter, and supported each other through both the struggles and victories of high school life.”

And of course, who could forget the very reasonable classroom exit policy? There were only four acceptable reasons to leave without permission, one of which was dying in my presence—but as we all agreed, the hallway was a much more appropriate location for such an event. (Thankfully, none of you ever tested that policy!) And then, there was the epic vocab project—a journey of weekly quizzes, scavenger hunts for words out in the real world, and presentations that some of you definitely prepared for mere minutes before standing in front of the class. The combination of last-minute theatrics, oddly creative sentence examples, and just enough well-placed confidence to convince the audience that you knew exactly what you were doing (even if you didn’t) made for some of the best moments. Yet somehow, despite the chaos, you all learned so many words—words that, if I ran into you today, I hope you’d still be able to use correctly in a sentence.

And, of course, never forget the Ides of March—because if Julius Caesar taught us anything, it’s that some dates are worth remembering (and watching your back for). If you ever forget when that is, just reach out—I’ll be more than happy to remind you. Beyond the jokes and lessons, there was love—deep, genuine love created within those classroom walls. A love of learning, of storytelling, of competition, heart to heart talks, trust, but most importantly, a love for one another. High school may have been a stepping stone, but the relationships built there were real, and they still matter.

So, let’s not lose sight of that connection. Whether you’re thriving in your career, raising a family, or still trying to figure it all out, know that you have a place here—with me and with each other. Reconnect. Reminisce. And never forget the bond we share as members of the body of Christ and as part of this wild, wonderful, and unforgettable family.

With all my love and admiration,

 Terra Golden

After high school graduation I taught guitar lessons, worked at Starbucks and then worked for a media team at a local church. In 2014, I founded my own media company, called Darin Reyes Productions, specializing in videography, photography, graphic design, and animation.

What do you currently do for work?

I still own my own media company doing videography, photography, animations and graphic design. It is now called Dragon Roll Media. We make corporate videos and photos for several large companies including hospitals, banks, schools and non-profits. My team and I travel all over the world, and we have our main office in the heart of Downtown Vacaville.

If you had it to do all over again, what would you do differently?

There are a few things I would do differently when I was younger but I wouldn’t have wanted to be at any other school!

What would you tell current VCHS students to plug into? To take advantage of? To be a part of? To not be afraid of?

Do what you love and don’t worry about what others think!

What's New At VCS

the value of service & gratitude

Our Spiritual Emphasis Week focused on teaching students the value of service, gratitude, and community. Younger students participated in various ways, including creating Valentine cards and care packages for law enforcement and senior centers, as well as packing duffel bags to be shared with local foster programs. Meanwhile, middle and high school students partnered with Convoy of Hope to pack and distribute 5,000 bags to food-insecure families in four Northern California cities, modeling Christ-like love in action.
