High School Course/Curriculum Offering
#7400 World Religions
Course Fee:This course is designed to introduce High School Juniors and Seniors to a variety of religious beliefs and to help them develop the ability to think critically about religion. The course starts with an introduction to Christian apologetics and the claims of Biblical Christianity, followed by examination of a variety of Christian cults. Then, the other major monotheistic religions of the world (Judaism, Islam, and Zoroastrianism) are presented. This is followed by an introduction to a variety of Eastern religions, and a study of some of the primal religions. Finally, modern philosophies that function in place of traditional religions are examined. During the course, students are assigned reading about the religions under discussion and also complete two research papers on religions of their choice. The text used is The Compact Guide to World Religions, edited by Dean C. Halverson.
