Course Fee: $25 fee and gallery visit is required.Art 1 is a foundation course that all other courses build upon. We will learn the fundamentals of drawing and painting and sculpting. To understand the elements of art; line, shape, value, color and texture, etc., we will practice drawing and painting from photos as well as drawing from life. Students will learn to see principles of art; balance, movement, rhythm, and unity, etc., through the practice of art criticism through the viewing of paintings of different art movements in history.

Course Fee: $25 fee and gallery visit is required.Art 2 is an advanced art course whose projects demand a higher skill level than Art 1. We will continue to apply their skills to drawing and painting and sculpting. Some projects will be applied art history. This means we’ll study and apply our knowledge to create artworks of those movements studied. Students will deepen their ability to analyze works of art through written art criticisms as well.
Pre-Requisites: Grade “B” or better in Art 1 and teacher approval.

#5600P Basic Journalism
Course Fee:This introductory class is designed to provide learning and practice in the fundamental skills of journalism from three perspectives: editorial, design, and business. Editorial skills of reporting, journalistic writing style, and copyediting will be studied and practiced in news articles, feature stories, investigative work, editorials, and columns. Photojournalism connects the editorial and design skills; students will study and practice regular film and digital camera work, as well as digital adjustment and preparation of photos for publication. Design skills will focus on page layout for ease to the reader and ad design which communicates clearly and pleases the client. The business side of journalism will be studied as students sell ads to help finance both the newspaper and the yearbook, as they establish and maintain professional working relationships with local businesses, and as they keep accurate financial records. Practice in Photoshop and InDesign will prepare students for work experience. Students will work with student editors as well as the class instructor to contribute to the VCHS Talon, the student newspaper, and Flight, the yearbook of the high school.
