Course Fee:This course differs from the English 9 course in the breadth and depth of writing and reading expected, and in the high achievement assumed of the students. The course is open by application.. Students apply the writing process to a variety of multi-paragraph compositions in this one-year course. They refine their grammatical skills and expand and improve their writing technique and style through revision and editing. In addition to this, poetry and creative writing will be utilized to further their writing skills. Students use critical thinking skills to examine the literature in light of a Christian worldview. Among the classics studied are Through Gates of Splendor, Things Fall Apart, To Kill a Mockingbird, Julius Caesar, and The Screwtape Letters and additional similar books.

Course Fee:This course explores solving equations and inequalities, linear functions and relations, systems of equations in one and two variables, matrices, and polynomials. Other topics included are rational expressions, simplifying radicals, quadratic equations and their graphs, exponential functions, sequences and series, simple statistics, and probability.
Prerequisites: grade of C- or better in Pre-Algebra or Pre-Algebra B; a C- or better in the 1st semester is required to enroll in the 2nd semester.
A scientific calculator is required for this course. To avoid the need of purchasing two calculators, students looking at enrolling in Pre-Calculus in the future may want to have a TI-83 or higher edition calculator for use in their future courses.

#4070P Algebra IA
Course Fee:This course enables students to cover the material of Algebra I over a two-year period. Algebra IA includes an extended review of Pre-Algebra and then explores solving equations and inequalities, graphing and analyzing linear functions and relations, and simple statistics and probability. Algebra IB includes a short review of Algebra IA and explores polynomials and their factoring, quadratic and exponential functions, radical and rational expressions and equations, statistics and probability. These two courses count as one year toward the mathematics requirement.
Pre-Requisites: of C- or better in Pre-Algebra and a C- or better in the 1st semester is required to enroll in the 2nd semester
