High School Course/Curriculum Offering

#4100P Algebra IB

Course Fee:

This course enables students to cover the material of Algebra I over a two-year period. Algebra IA includes an extended review of Pre-Algebra and then explores solving equations and inequalities, graphing and analyzing linear functions and relations, and simple statistics and probability. Algebra IB includes a short review of Algebra IA and explores polynomials and their factoring, quadratic and exponential functions, radical and rational expressions and equations, statistics and probability. These two courses count as one year toward the mathematics requirement.

Pre-Requisites: A grade of C- or better in Algebra IA and a C- or better in the 1st semester is required to enroll in the 2nd semester
Co-Requisites: A scientific calculator

#4250AP AP Calculus

Course Fee:

The purpose of this course is to provide a basic education in general calculus principles comparable to that found at the first-year college level. The student will be well prepared for college level calculus and can use this knowledge as a foundation for further mathematical studies. It is designed for the student who desires to further study math at the college level. Calculus focuses its study on limits and their properties, various methods of differentiation and their applications, and methods of integration and their applications. Students will also work with important classes of functions such as logarithmic, exponential, and trigonometric functions. Students will encounter maximum/minimum problems, related rates problems, Reimann sums, volumes and surface areas of rotation problems. Students will be well prepared to take the AP Calculus AB examination.

Pre-Requisites: grade of C or better in Pre-Calculus or Instructor’s Approval
Co-Requisites: A graphing calculator such as a TI-83 plus, TI-83 plus silver, TI-84 plus or TI-84 plus silver is required for this course.
