The construction is in its fourth year. Now there is something to hang on the wall.
Vacaville Christian High School's fledgling wrestling program clinched its first-ever Sierra Delta League title on Tuesday night, rolling to a 54-12 victory over visiting Highlands.
"It means a lot to the program," said Eric Wilson, who has coached the Falcons all four seasons. "It's really a first for a whole new sport at this school. We're starting to get some recognition around campus. Now we're going to have a (league championship) banner."
The Falcons also advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI team dual tournament, which will be held on Saturday at Lincoln of Stockton.
The Falcons (5-0 in SDL matches) all but sewed up the league crown with last week's tense, 41-35 win over Encina.
Tuesday night's match was a walkover, literally. The Falcons won four matches by pin, but added five more wins by forfeit over the outmanned Scots.
Amber Stewart had one of the better matches of the short evening, pinning Milani Brussar of Highlands in the third round at 138 pounds.
Daniel Ewing (113 pounds), Aaron Aiken (120) and Cyrus Javan (heavyweight) also recorded pins.
Ewing is one of Wilson's few veterans, in his third year with the program.
Eddie Donofrio (126) is also in his third season, but didn't get to wrestle on Tuesday, winning by forfeit.
Cameron Botkin (160), Rafael Gallegos (182), Mateo Olloqui (195) and Gabe Harcrow (220) also won by walkover.
