Welcome to Vacaville Christian Middle School
We're off to a great school year with excellence in academics, opportunity for spiritual growth, team building and fun in our athletic program, and lots of great time with teachers and friends!
Academic excellence is extremely important at VCS. For the 2009/2010 school year we have added the following elective courses for seventh and eighth grade: Graphic Design, Digital Photography, Film, Mysteries of Science, Intro to Psychology and Speech & Debate. For sixth grade we have added a new elective course called Write/Right. We offer advanced math in sixth and seventh grade and all eighth graders take advanced math, Algebra 1. We also offer advanced English classes for grades sixth-eighth.
We want to encourage every student to do their best academically. Every student has a planner to write down their homework assignments. Each teacher provides three out of classroom workshops for students per week for additional academic assistance. We have a program called PowerSchool that enables parents and students to access assignment information, grades, attendance information, and lunch charges via any Internet accessible computer. Teachers and administrators have an open door policy as well as being available to parents and teachers by email or telephone.
Spiritual growth is a vital part of our program. It is our desire that each of our students grow daily in their walk with the Lord Jesus. To that end, we have daily Bible classes, weekly Chapels, Bible leadership clubs, a fall retreat, and a spring Spiritual Emphasis Week. This fall, our 6th graders will experience, four, fun-filled days at Camp Del Oro. This science outdoor education camp with a Christian emphasis affords the opportunity to learn about God's Intelligent Design through science exploration activities, to enjoy times of worship, to make friends, and to do a plethora of outdoor activities like lake activities, archery, and ropes courses. Our seventh and eighth graders will experience four incredible days at Koinonia Conference Grounds. Our theme will be Not Of This World. The retreat at Koinonia encourages each student to start off the year strong spiritually with daily Chapels and opportunities to share in cabin devotional times as well as participate in cabin and group competitions, campfire, skits, ropes courses, athletic activities including swimming, and the giant slide.
We have an excellent athletic program as well. The Middle School has numerous sports teams for students to participate in. In the fall there are three tackle football teams, one flag football team, cheerleading, cross country, and two volleyball teams. In the winter cheerleading continues and VCMS students may participate on one of our six basketball teams (one per grade, per gender). In the spring we have boys' soccer, girls' soccer, track, and more basketball. Mrs. Borges is our Athletic Director. You can contact her at Cborges@go-vcs.com.
VCS is an incredible place! It has been my pleasure to be a member of the VCS family since 1996, and to have two children of our own attend VCS. As parents, we have experienced the ECE, Elementary, Middle School, and now the High School. This is a great place for students to grow academically, spiritually, physically, and socially. As a parent, I cannot image ever having our children anywhere else. This school really does partner with the home and church and is itself an amazing family! If you have any questions, or I can serve you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me personally. My email is Jfogh@go-vcs.com and I can be reached at 446-1776, ext. 4050 or ext. 4053.
Blessings!
Mrs. Janet Fogh, Principal
