Kindergarten Overview

Kindergarten is a very important step and an exciting time in your child's formal education. We will give your child a life-long love and knowledge of Jesus, a strong foundation to develop a love of learning to read, doing math and learning to write.

Over the year, your child will be broadening his/her level of independence and developing many new skills:

Bible: Children will learn about God's creation, making choices, the difference between a sin and a mistake, how God cares for their needs and hears their prayers, and how Jesus is an example in their lives.

Reading: Children will master letters/sounds, learn short and long vowels, sight words, and the special sounds that will help them become proficient in their reading. The majority of students are reading by the end of the year.

Math: Children will master counting and number recognition to 100, money, clocks (to the hour and half hour), counting by 5's and 10's, measuring, estimation, addition, beginning subtraction, before/after numbers, comparison, fractions and number words.

Science/Social Studies: Children will learn about how special they are, manners, their five senses, nutrition and taking care of their bodies, Native Americans/Pilgrims, Christmas around the world, multicultural/heritage, community helpers, farm animals, insects, plants, and marine life.

Handwriting: Children learn the proper formation of lowercase/capital letters, writing sentences with proper spacing and neatness.

We have many exciting activities throughout the year. We celebrate Johnny Appleseed's birthday with a week full of activities, we do a heritage unit which gives the children a chance to learn about their family history, 55 Club with Kindergarten and 5th grade getting together, ice skating, 100th day of school, a petting zoo, a trip to a Christmas tree farm, and celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines, and Easter parties.

Each child can and will be successful and have fun doing it!
