ChildWise Parenting Classes - Begins Tuesday, September 29th, 2009
What are the principles of Childwise? Great marriages make great parents. Use the strength of your leadership early on and the strength of your relationship later. Parent now, be friends later. Instill morality into a child and his behavior will fall into place. Other people count. It is not enough to teach your children how to act morally; they must learn how to think morally. Teach to the virtue, not the vice. If learning didn't take place, correction didn't happen. Constantly reminding a child t do what is expected only means you have no expectation. Verbal affirmation is never redundant. Wise parenting is better than power parenting. The five week Childwise parenting program takes place on Tuesday nights starting September 29th, from 6:30-8:30. Classes are scheduled for 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20, and 10/27. They are especially helpful for Early Education - Elementary children, but we have the books for Middle School and High School students available for check out. To enroll, get an application from the Early Education or Elementary office, or download here.
Growing Kids God's Way - Monday nights starting February 1st 2010
You will hear buzz words like "first time obedience", "appeal process" and "the interrupt rule" often at VCS. Teachers, administrators and parents will make reference to "Growing Kids God's Way", "Preparation for Parenting" and "Preparation for Toddlers". Many of our new parents may not fully understand these references so perhaps it would be a good time to clarify what "Growing Kids" is all about.
Pastor Gary Ezzo and his wife Anne Marie started a parenting class in Los Angeles in 1984 with 12 parents. At this time there are 83 countries currently using "Growing Kids God's Way" with 45-50,000 people attending parenting classes.
"Growing Kids God's Way" has five goals which have not changed since the very first class was offered. The first goal is to raise a generation of children to the glory of God, not the glory of man. The second goal is to provide practical instruction that will help parents understand both the principles of Biblical training and their application. The third goal is, they desire to instill confidence in each and every parent who participates. This confidence is in God's Word, which is sufficient both in truth and practice. With confidence comes competency in parenting. The fourth goal is to help families look positively towards the teen years. Although our culture claims teenage rebellion is a norm, parents can take heart - that idea is not what the Bible teaches. Parenting can be a tremendous experience, and if God's standards are maintained, the teen years can be among the best ones.
The principles of "Growing Kids God's Way" are not designed to work on a child's outward behavior, but rather on the inner attitudes of the heart.
"Growing Kids God's Way " classes are offered on Monday nights February - March every school year. 2010 Schedule: 2/1, 2/8, 2/22, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 3/22 and 3/29. We also keep two sets of videos in the Early Childhood Education office as a lending library for VCS parents.
